HAARM formed during 2016 in an underground tequila bar at 4 am when Jen (vocals/keys), Chris (vocals/guitars) & Olly (drums), three friends from three different bands, all confessed to being huge fans of each other’s songwriting and drunkenly made plans to form a band together. Determined not to let this turn into another one of those drunken ideas that seem brilliant at the time but never materialise, the three began work immediately on writing and recording a set of songs with a strong emphasis on melody and groove and after failing to decide which songs suited Jen’s voice or Chris’ voice better, they decided to sing them all together, the two lush voices side by side throughout it all.
Debut single ‘Foxglove’ was followed by a second release, ‘In the Wild’ both of which received multiple plays on BBC Radio 1 (Huw Stephens/Phil Taggart) and were being added to the playlist at Radio X. The band supported Bloc Party during their February tour in 2017, culminating with two dates at esteemed London venue The Roundhouse. In May 2017, the band were selected by BBC Introducing to play Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Hull and were introduced onstage by Huw Stephens. The band released single, ‘Box of Bones’, in April 2018. The song was selected as the soundtrack for Sky Atlantic promo in the summer of 2018 which was broadcast across the Sky TV network. In August 2018, the band were chosen as the sound of BT Sport’s 2018/19 Premiership Football coverage with their version of Manchester band, Everything Everything’s song, ‘I Believe It Now’.
Autumn 2018 saw the release of the band’s heart wrenching single, ‘Better Friend’, which received support from Nemone on the BBC6 Music Breakfast show, with her stating that it was “like a cross between Michael Kiwanuka, Jungle and Moby: a three-headed pop monster”. The music video was directed by acclaimed film director, Daniel Fitzsimmons (Native). The band have recently recorded their new single ‘Take Me Away’ with producer/mix engineer Al Groves (Bring Me The Horizon, Cast, Paris Youth Foundation) at Liverpool’s iconic Motor Museum recording studio. It is due to be released in autumn 2019.
